Ashfield Nature Reserve, near Orangedale, Inverness County, protects a mixed forest of mature hemlock, white pine, sugar maple, red maple, white ash, yellow birch, and scattered red oak.

The reserve is within a settled and productive lowland landscape with few protected areas. The land was acquired for protection from NewPage (now Port Hawkesbury Paper) in 2010.
