Tobacco Island, near the mouth of Liscomb Harbour on Nova Scotia’s Eastern Shore, is an important seabird nesting site. It was first proposed for protection through the International Biological Programme in 1974. Except for a few stunted conifer trees, the island is mostly barren or covered with shrubs. It was established as a nature reserve primarily to protect breeding sea birds. Habitat alteration, nest disturbance and hunting above the mean high water mark are prohibited.
