A Recap of the Early Learning and Child Care Plan (ELCC)
With a focus on the needs of Nova Scotia families, the 10-year, made in Nova Scotia, Early Learning and Child Care (ELCC) Plan added more day care spaces, increased subsidies. spaces, and provided a framework for ongoing support for our child care sector.
The first four years of the program were focussed on implementation. The plan is now being sustained. For an overview of plan accomplishments, please read the ELCC Plan Priority Area Action Checklist (PDF).
For research and historical purposes, here is a list of ELCC programs and initiatives:
- Child Care Subsidy
This program assists eligible families with their child care expenses to enable them to work, pursue employment, attend school, and cope with family crisis. - Early Childhood Enhancement Grant (ECEG)
Available to licensed facilities. - Family Home Day Care Program
Family home day care agencies provide professional support to in-home care providers. - Recruitment & Retention of Child Care Staff
A strategy to build a plan than will take steps to stabilize and enhance the child care workforce in order to deliver quality licensed child care services in Nova Scotia. - Supported Child Care
The goal of this program is to assist in the creation or enhancement of existing inclusive child care programs for young children. - Supported Child Care Grant (SCCG)
This grant provides funding to licensed facilities for programs inclusive of children with special needs.
