Description
- Thomas F. Baxter was a 48 year-old Linen Steward aboard RMS Titanic.
- His body was found by the crew of CS Mackay-Bennett and was buried in Fairview Lawn Cemetery.
- Like other Titanic victims buried in Halifax, the White Star Line paid for the black granite grave marker.
- This granite slab is the damaged portion of the original grave marker. In 1999, the decision was made to restore the stone, so the face was sawed off as a slab. The new face was then polished, inscribed with the same lettering and returned to the cemetery. Today, the only sign of the alteration is the fact that the grave marker is three-quarters of an inch shorter.
