Processing and shipping information

Changing your address

If you have a new address and you haven't already notified us, please submit a change of address before you use any of our other online services. Your products or documents will be mailed to you at the address we have on file for you.

You can submit an online change of address for the Nova Scotia Registry of Motor Vehicles, Nova Scotia Health Card.

Non-deliverable mail

If for any reason your products or documents are returned to us marked non-deliverable, a record will be kept at Service Nova Scotia. In the case of birth, death or marriage certificate requests, we will attempt to contact you at the phone number or email address you provided. For all other services, you must contact us to give us the correct information.

Change of address

Registry of Motor Vehicles

Processing time:
usually within 2-3 business days
Delivery time:
several extra days for regular mail delivery

Notes:You will receive a new address label by mail to affix to the back of any vehicle registration documents in your possession. If you want to display the new address on your Nova Scotia Driver's Licence or Nova Scotia Identification Card, you may apply for a replacement by visiting an Access Nova Scotia or Registry of Motor Vehicles office and paying the applicable fee.

Once the item is processed, it will be mailed or couriered (whichever delivery method you choose).

Registry of Motor Vehicles online services


Note: Your access to certain Registry of Motor Vehicle services may be blocked because of unpaid fines or parking tickets. If this occurs, your online request for vehicle permit renewal, knowledge test receipt, or road test receipt may be turned down until the fine(s) and the administration (or privilege reinstatement) fee are paid. Your payment will be refunded and we will send you a letter explaining the reason we cannot process your online request.

Fine payments

Processing time:
Outstanding fines are paid at the time of your transaction. The privilege reinstatement fee is not considered settled until the Registry of Motor Vehicles completes processing, usually within 2-3 business days.
Delivery time:
Please allow several extra days for regular mail delivery of your receipt.

Vehicle permit renewal

Processing time:
After you submit your vehicle permit renewal request online, unless otherwise indicated, your payment receipt will be valid as an interim vehicle permit for 10 days from the date each plate renewal was processed online. It will usually be processed within 2-3 business days.
Delivery time:
Please allow several extra days for regular mail delivery of your new vehicle permit and stickers.

Notes: You must have a valid vehicle permit in your vehicle at all times. It indicates the owner of the vehicle, the owner of the vehicle's licence plates, and whether the licence plates are valid.

Knowledge test receipt

Processing time:
You MUST print your online receipt, which you can use right away.
Delivery time:
Your receipt will not be mailed to you.

Notes: You do not need to make an appointment to write the knowledge test, but you must come to the office during specific hours. Please view the list of driver examination and testing service locations and hours.

Road test receipt

Processing time:
You MUST print your online receipt, which you can use right away.
Delivery time:
Your receipt will not be mailed to you.

Notes: You must set up an appointment to do the road test. You can choose to have us contact you for an appointment, or contact us to book a road test appointment at one of our driver examination and testing service locations. Please have the receipt number and file number when calling to schedule a road test appointment.

If you didn't get your documents or products:

If you have not received the products or documents you ordered from us within 30 days, please contact us at 902-424-5200 or 1-800-670-4357 (toll-free).

Before you call, please have all of the following information on hand:

  • the day and approximate time you used the service
  • a copy of your confirmation receipt printed at the time of the transaction (if you have one), including the transaction ID number and any other relevant information (for example, your master number)
  • any recent correspondence from us regarding your transaction
