Any group wishing to start a credit
union in Nova Scotia must apply to the Nova Scotia Superintendent of Credit
Unions for incorporation.
The Province maintains a Registry of all Credit Unions authorized to do
business in Nova Scotia. |

In order to incorporate (and register)
a Credit Union, please contact the Financial Institutions Division by visiting
or writing the office listed above.
Articles of Incorporation and proposed Charter Bylaws, can be obtained
from the Financial Institutions Division of Nova Scotia Department of Finance and Treasury Board listed above. The completed application is filed with the Superintendent
of Credit Unions, who must be satisfied that the credit union would provide
a public benefit, is not objectionable, and would be financially successful.
Upon completion, the registration and approved documents are returned
to the registered office of the credit union by the Superintendent of
Credit Unions. |

Expiry & Renewal: |

This incorporation does not expire.
However, credit unions make annual filings with the Superintendent of Credit
Unions. |

Please pay by cheque or money order made out to the Minister of Finance. |
Related Requirements: |

The business must have:
(1) registration under the Mortgage Brokers and Lenders Registration
Act; and
(2) registration under the Consumer Protection Act. |

Credit Unions are also listed with the Nova Scotia Registry
of Joint Stock Companies .
