Raccoon Dog Night Hunting Permit

Who Needs This Permit?
Anyone who wants to hunt raccoons with dogs, or train dogs to hunt raccoons, at night in Nova Scotia.

Note: This permit is only issued to someone with a valid Fur Harvester Licence.

N.S. Department of Natural Resources

  Any of the Local or Area Offices of the N.S. Department of Natural Resources.

Application Forms & Process:
Application can be made at the nearest Local or Area Office of the N.S. Department of Natural Resources.

If all requirements are met and the application is approved, the permit may be sent to the applicant by mail, or they can pick it up in person.

Waiting Period:
Same day

Expiry & Renewal:
This permit is valid from August 1 to December 31 for training, and from October 15 of the year issued to the last day of February the next year for hunting. It is not renewable.

Price:
Free (Applicant has already paid for their Fur Harvester Licence.)

Additional Information:
  1. The season for hunting raccoons is from October 15 until the last day of February.

  2. The season for training dogs to hunt raccoons at night is from August 1 to December 31.

  3. For hunting, the applicant must demonstrate to the satisfaction of the N.S. Department of Natural Resources that the dog to be used is capable of treeing a raccoon.

  4. Hunters can only carry a shotgun, bow or .22 caliber rifle
