Shut-in Island Nature Reserve protects a small, exposed island on the Atlantic coast near the mouth of Three Fathom Harbour, on Nova Scotia’s Eastern Shore.
The island’s dissected rocky shoreline, cobble beaches, and windswept, treeless terrain provides important nesting habitat for common eiders and double-crested cormorants.
The island also provides feeding habitat for migrating shorebirds, including purple sandpiper and ruddy turnstone.
