Panuke Road Quarry Expansion

Description

This is to advise that on March 12, 2008, Municipal Enterprises Limited registered a quarry expansion project for environmental assessment, in accordance with Part IV of the Environment Act.

The purpose of the proposed undertaking is to expand the boundaries of the existing quarry approvals, and continue excavation activities at the existing facility on Panuke Road, Windsor, Nova Scotia. The proposed Project will involve an expansion from approximately 6 hectares to 10 hectares. The estimated Project lifespan is 5 years. The proposed schedule for the undertaking will be based on 15 hr/days, 7 days/week, on a year round basis (weather permitting). The proposed Project will commence upon obtaining applicable approvals and authorizations, likely in the spring of 2008.

Minister's Decision

On April 7, 2008 the Minister of Environment released a decisionPDF Download Link (PDF:321k) concerning this review. The Minister has decided to approve the undertaking in accordance with Section 13(1)b of the Environmental Assessment Regulations, pursuant to Part IV of the Environment Act. The undertaking has been approved subject to a number of conditionsPDF Download Link (PDF:49k).

The proponent is required to obtain all other necessary approvals, permits or authorizations before commencing work on the undertaking.

Public comments regarding the project were accepted from March 12, 2008 to March 26, 2008.
