EverWind Strait Crossing Transmission Line Project

Description

This is to advise that on March 6, 2025, EverWind NS Holdings Ltd. registered the EverWind Strait Crossing Transmission Line Project, Guysborough and Richmond Counties for environmental assessment, in accordance with Part IV of the Environment Act.

The purpose of the proposed undertaking is to construct and operate a 345 kV overhead transmission line across the Strait of Canso. This transmission line crossing will transmit wind generated renewable electricity from EverWind's Phase 2 wind power projects in Guysborough to their Hydrogen and Ammonia Production Facility in Point Tupper, Richmond County. The transmission line crossing will support two circuits with a total line power rating of 2,000 MW. The Project spans the Strait of Canso from Steep Creek in the Municipality of the District of Guysborough, to Point Tupper in the Municipality of the County of Richmond, Nova Scotia. The Project intends to begin construction in 2026 and is expected to be operational for 80 years commencing in 2027.

Minister's Decision

On April 25, 2025, the Minister of Environment and Climate Change released a decision concerning this review. The Minister has decided to approve the undertaking in accordance with Section 13(1)(b) of the Environmental Assessment Regulations, pursuant to Part IV of the Environment Act. The undertaking has been approved subject to a number of conditions.
