Bear Head Liquefied Natural Gas Terminal

Description

On May 10, 2004, Access Northeast Energy Inc. submitted an Environmental Assessment Registration Document for a proposed Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) Terminal at Bear Head, Nova Scotia.

Access Northeast Energy Inc. proposes to construct and operate an LNG Terminal in the Point Tupper/Bear Head Industrial Park to meet demand for natural gas and other forms of energy in Canada and the United States.

This project is also subject to a federal environmental assessment. A harmonized federal/provincial environmental assessment review process has been established.

Minister's Decision

On August 9, 2004, the Minister of Environment and Labour released a decisionPDF Download Link (PDF:325k) concerning this review. The Minister has decided to approve the undertaking with conditions in accordance with Section 13(1)b of the Environmental Assessment Regulations, pursuant to Part IV of the Environment Act. The undertaking has been approved subject to a number of conditionsPDF Download Link (PDF:39k). The proponent is required to obtain all other necessary approvals, permits or authorizations before commencing work on the undertaking.
