White Rock Quartz/Kaolin and Mica Mine

Description

On August 14, 2002 Black Bull Resources Inc. submitted an Environmental Assessment Registration Document for the proposed development and operation of the White Rock quartz mine near Flintstone Rock, Yarmouth County. The purpose of the proposed undertaking is to develop a surface mine for the extraction and processing of quartz. The mine would commence production of quartz in 2003. Products would be shipped via ground to port facilities in Yarmouth and Shelburne for transport via ocean to markets in Atlantic Canada, central Canada and the US. The estimated life of the mine for the area proposed is 10-12 years.

Minister's Decision

On September 6, 2002, the Minister of Environment and Labour released a decisionPDF Download Link (PDF:16k) concerning this review. The Minister has decided to approve the undertaking in accordance with Section 13 (1)(b) of the Environmental Assessment Regulations, pursuant to Part IV of the Environment Act.

The undertaking has been approved subject to a number of conditionsPDF Download Link (PDF:32k). The proponent is required to obtain all other necessary approvals, permits or authorizations before commencing work on the undertaking.
