Description

The purpose of the proposed undertaking is to develop and operate a short-term storage facility for asbestos waste until it can be transferred to the Colchester Balefill Facility for disposal. Under the Environmental Assessment Regulations, a permanent facility for the handling of waste dangerous goods is a Class 1 undertaking. The Minister will make a decision on this undertaking no later than March 10, 2002.

Minister's Decision

On March 7, 2002, the Minister of Environment and Labour released a decision (PDF:12k) concerning this review. The Minister has decided to approve the undertaking in accordance with Section 13 (1)(b) of the Environmental Assessment Regulations, pursuant to Part IV of the Environment Act.

The undertaking has been approved subject to a number of conditions (PDF:11k). The proponent is required to obtain all other necessary approvals, permits or authorizations before commencing work on the undertaking.
