Touquoy Gold Project Site Modifications

Description

This is to advise that on July 16, 2021, Atlantic Mining Nova Scotia Inc. registered the Touquoy Gold Project Site Modifications for environmental assessment, in accordance with Part IV of the Environment Act.

The purpose of the proposed undertaking is to support the existing operations at the Touquoy Gold Mine located in Moose River, Nova Scotia, 63km Northeast of Halifax and 19 km southeast of Middle Musquodoboit. The proposed modifications include use of the exhausted open pit for tailings deposition, expansion of the waste rock storage area and clay borrow area; and the realignment of the plant access road used to access the mill facility and administrative buildings. The approved development area of the mine site is approximately 271 ha, the proposed project modifications will add approximately an additional 18 ha. Pending regulatory approval to proceed, work will begin immediately on the waste rock storage area and plant access road and clay borrow area. The in-pit tailings disposal is planned to begin in 2022 and will cease when tailings are no longer processed at this site.

Minister's Decision

On September 8, 2021, the Minister of Environment determined that the Registration information was insufficient to make a decision on the Project and that additional information is required. The Proponent must provide information regarding in-pit mine tailings disposal, ground and surface water, fish and fish habitat, protected areas, wildlife, wetlands and historical mine tailings.
