Gillis Lake Quarry Expansion Project

Description

This is to advise that on January 09, 2020 Zutphen Resources Inc. registered the Gillis Lake Quarry Expansion Project for Environmental Assessment, in accordance with Part IV of the Environment Act.

The purpose of the proposed undertaking is to expand the existing Gillis Lake Quarry located at 2918 Coxheath Road, PID’s 15853146 and 15212947, in Gillis Lake, Cape Breton County, Nova Scotia. Zutphen manufactures aggregate for its own use and for supply to other contractors. This Project encompasses expansion of the existing 4 ha quarry over an expected 20-25 year period, across an expansion area of 9.3 ha. Future rate of aggregate production (~ 40,000-50,000 tonnes annually) and associated quarry activities at the Gillis Lake Quarry are expected to remain consistent with current quarry operations. Quarry expansion will commence upon Project approval.

Minister's Decision

On February 28, 2020, the Minister of Environment released a decision concerning this review. The Minister has decided to approve the undertaking in accordance with Section 13(1)b of the Environmental Assessment Regulations, pursuant to Part IV of the Environment Act. The undertaking has been approved subject to a number of conditions.
