Gaelic Symbol Number Plates Regulations

made under Section 38 of the

Motor Vehicle Act

Citation

1     These regulations may be cited as the Gaelic Symbol Number Plates Regulations.


Definitions

2     In these regulations,

 

“Gaelic symbol number plate” means a special number plate as described in Section 3;

 

“Gaels Forward Fund” means the Gàidheil Air Adhart/Gaels Forward fund established as a special purpose fund under Section 10 of the Finance Act.


Description of plate

3     On application to the Registry of Motor Vehicles in the form approved by the Registrar, and subject to these regulations, a person may be issued a special number plate that

 

                (a)    is 15.24 cm in width by 30.48 cm in length;

 

                (b)    shows a Gaelic symbol followed by blue letters and numerals on a silver white field; and

 

                (c)    bears the words “NOVA SCOTIA” at the top and “ALBA NUADH” at the bottom, and is otherwise in general accordance with the number plate depicted in Schedule A.


Eligibility for initial Gaelic symbol number plate

4     A person who has made a contribution of $50 to the Gaels Forward Fund is eligible to apply for a Gaelic symbol number plate.


Renewals

5     A person who has been issued a Gaelic symbol number plate may retain the Gaelic symbol number plate if an additional $50 donation is made to the Gaels Forward Fund on each renewal of the permit for the motor vehicle for which the plate is issued.


Vehicle weight restriction

6     A Gaelic symbol number plate may be issued only for a vehicle that is a passenger motor vehicle or a commercial motor vehicle and has a registered weight of 5000 kg or less.
