Food retailers: food safety

Food safety resources, guidelines and information for food retailers. Government works with food retailers to help make sure food safety standards are maintained.

Many retail organizations recognize food safety as a priority and by working closely with government have developed food safety plans like the Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point (HACCP). These plans help reduce incidences of food borne illness and reduce the number of consumers complaints. They also increase efficiency and reduce food waste.

The Agri-food Inspection Services Division regulates and inspects retail organizations to make sure the minimum food safety standards are maintained.

Food Safety Regulations, the Nova Scotia Food Retail and Food Services Code and the Health Protection Act help make sure Nova Scotians have the best food protection possible.
