NEW MOTOR VEHICLE SALES, MARCH 2012



In Nova Scotia March 2012, year-to-date unit sales (unadjusted) increased 8.1% over Jan-Mar 2011 to 10,412 and year-to-date dollar sales increased 6.5% over Jan-Mar 2011 to $299.5 million.

In Canada March 2012, year-to-date unit sales (unadjusted) increased 9.1% over Jan-Mar 2011 to 371,953 units and year-to-date dollar sales increased 8.2% over Jan-Mar 2011 to $12.4 billion.



The variation in the unit price of new motor vehicles -- lower in Eastern Canada and higher in Western Canada -- reveals a clear preference for more expensive motor vehicles in the west.

In Nova Scotia March 2012, the unit price for new motor vehicles declined $1,086 over February 2012 to $28,206. Year-to-date average price of new motor vehicles declined $558 over Jan-Mar 2011 to 28,872.

In Canada March 2012, the unit price for new motor vehicles declined $124 over February 2012 to $33,379. Year-to-date average price of new motor vehicles declined $450 over Jan-Mar 2011 to $33,405.


Statsitics Canada Notice:

Effective with the next release (May 14, 2012) of the monthly New Motor Vehicle Sales, only unadjusted data will be reported. Seasonally adjusted data will no longer be available.

The Economics and Statistics DailyStats will continue to report an enhanced anaysis of New Motor Vehicle sales for Nova Scotia, including year-to-date comparison of unit and dollar sales.
