EU AND EURO AREA CONSUMER PRICE INDEX, MARCH 2021

Year-over-year (Mar 2021 vs Mar 2020)

The inflation rate moved up to 1.7% in the European Union and moved up to 1.3% in the Euro Area.

Among member states, the fastest inflation was reported in Poland, Hungary, Romania, and Luxembourg while the lowest inflation was reported in Greece, Portugal, Malta, Ireland, and Slovenia. Annual inflation increased in 26 member states and declined in 1 member state.

Food price inflation moved down to 0.6% in the European Union and moved down to 0.7% in the Euro Area. 

Energy inflation moved up to 4.5% in the European Union and moved up to 4.3% in the Euro Area.

Excluding the impacts of volatile energy, food, alcohol and tobacco prices inflation moved down to 1.3% in the European Union and moved down to 0.9% in the Euro Area.

Canada and Nova Scotia March 2021 CPI figures will be released on April 21, 2021.
