EU AND EURO AREA CONSUMER PRICE INFLATION, JANUARY 2018

In January, annual inflation was 1.3 per cent in the Euro Area (down from 1.4 per cent last month) and 1.6 per cent in the European Union (down from 1.7 per cent last month). In January 2017, inflation in the Euro Area was 1.8 per cent and inflation in the EU was 1.7 per cent.

The highest annual rates were recorded in Estonia and Lithuania (both 3.6 per cent), and Romania (3.4 per cent).  The lowest rates were registered in Cyprus (-1.5 per cent), Greece (0.2%), and Ireland (0.3 per cent).

The highest contribution to euro area annual inflation came from services, food, alcohol and tobacco, energy, and non-energy industrial goods.
