US RETAIL SALES AND FOOD SERVICE RECEIPTS, MARCH 2025

Month-over-month (March vs February 2025, seasonally adjusted)

In the advance estimates of U.S retail sales and food service receipts, total sales grew 1.4% from February to March 2025. Excluding food services receipts, retail trade grew 1.4%. Food service and drinking place receipts grew 1.8%.                       

Year-over-year (March 2024 vs March 2025, seasonally adjusted)

US retail trade and food services receipts increased 4.6% from March 2024 to March 2025. Retail trade increased 4.6% and food services and drinking places sales increased 4.8%.

Year-to-date (January-March 2025 vs January-March 2024)

US retail sales were up 4.1% with gains in all categories except in sporting & recreation , gas stations, and electronics. The fastest gains (in percentage terms) were in miscellaneous and furniture retailers.  Food service receipts were up 4.0% year-to-date.
