UK GDP, FEBRUARY 2025

Month-over-month (February 2025 vs January 2025)

The Office for National Statistics (ONS) released estimates of UK Gross Domestic Product (seasonally adjusted) growth rate for February 2025 and reported an increase of 0.5%. The monthly gain follows no growth in the first month of 2025. 

In February 2025, most industries reported higher level of real GDP compared to the previous month. Among broad industries, monthly GDP declines were fastest for mining/quarrying and other service activities. The largest gains were reported for manufacturing, information/communication, and electricity/gas/steam/air conditioning supply. Construction sector grew 0.4% in February 2025. The rise in monthly output in came from both new work (+0.3%) and repair and maintenance (+0.5%).

Year-over-year (February 2025 vs February 2024)

The UK economy was 1.4% larger in February 2025 when compared to the same month in 2024.

Production industries grew 0.1% in the 12-month period. The 7.0% decline in the mining and quarrying sector offset by a 6.8% growth in the water supply sector. 

Service industries grew 1.6% between February 2024 and February 2025. Largest gain was in information and communication sector and the largest decline was in arts/entertainment/recreation. 

Construction sector GDP grew 1.6% in February 2025 compared to the same month a year ago.
