EU AND EURO AREA RETAIL TRADE, JULY 2024

Month-over-month (July 2024 vs. June 2024, seasonally adjusted turnover value)

In the European Union, retail sales values were up 0.3%. In the Euro Area, retail sales values were also up 0.3% from the previous month.

Year-over-year (July 2024 vs. July 2023, seasonally adjusted turnover value)

In the European Union, on a year-over-year basis, retail sales were up 1.8%. In the Euro Area, retail sales were up 1.2% in July 2024.

Year-to-date (Jan-Jul 2024 vs. Jan-Jul 2023, seasonally adjusted turnover value)

In the European Union, retail sales were up 2.1%. In the Euro Area, retail sales were up 1.7%.

By member state, where data is available, the strongest growth in year-to-date retail sales occurred in Romania, Croatia, and Luxembourg. Estonia, Belgium, and Finland were the only countries reporting a year-to-date decline in retail sales during January-July 2024.

Note: Countries in the Euro Area are a subset of the countries in the European Union and contribute to the EU average. Individual countries reported with green bars are in the European Union but not in the Euro Area. With the addition of Croatia as of January 1, 2023, the Euro Area increased to 20 countries.

The publication of German data is delayed due to the changeover to new data requirements.
