CANADIAN SURVEY ON DISABILITY, 2022

Statistics Canada has released results from the 2022 Canadian Survey on Disability. This survey provides insights on the prevalence, severity and type of disability reported by Canadians across the country.

In Nova Scotia, 37.9% of the population reported a disability - the highest prevalence of disability among provinces.  Nationally, 27.0% of the population reported a disability, with the lowest prevalence in Québec.

Prevalence of disability rises with age, but Nova Scotia's comparatively high prevalence of disability is consistent across all age cohorts except those aged 75 and older.  Québec's low prevalence of disability is consistent across all age cohorts.

Pain-related disabilities were the most widely reported type of disability and Nova Scotia reported the highest prevalence of this disability among provinces (24.9%).

With the exception of developmental-related disabilities, Nova Scotia reported the highest prevalence of every type of disability.  Québec reported the lowest prevalence of every type of disability.  Respondents could report multiple disabilities.

For each category of the severity of disability, Nova Scotia reported the highest prevalence among provinces (tied for highest prevalence of mild disabilities).
