UK GDP Q3 2023 (REVISED ESTIMATE)

The Office for National Statistics (ONS) released the revised estimate of UK Gross Domestic Product (seasonally adjusted annualized rate) for Q3 2023 and reported a decrease of 0.5%, larger than the 0.1% decline reported in the first estimate. Compared to the pre-pandemic quarter (Q4 2019), the UK economy is 1.4% larger in Q3 2023.

Services output fell in Q3 2023, led by declines in information and communication and real estate activities. The largest positive contribution to services growth came from education, public administration and defence, and arts, entertainment and recreation. Production output edged up in Q3 2023, with increases in manufacturing, mining and quarrying, and electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning supply offset by declines in water supply, and waste management/remediation. Construction output was revised up for the quarter and driven by higher repair and maintenance.
