May 16, 2023US RETAIL SALES, APRIL 2023 Month over month (April 2023 vs. March 2023, seasonally adjusted)
The US Census Bureau announced today that the advance estimates of U.S retail and food service sales have increased to $686.1 billion (+0.4%). Excluding food services and drinking places, retail trade sales decreased 0.4% while food service and drinking places increased 0.6%.
Year-over-year (April 2023 vs April 2022, seasonally adjusted)
US retail trade increased 0.5% and food services and drinking places sales increased 9.4%.
Year-to-date (Jan-Apr 2023 vs Jan-Apr 2022, seasonally adjusted)
During the first four months of 2023, the United States retail trade and food services increased 4.1%. Retail trade increased 2.7% and food services and drinking places sales increased 15.0%.
Sales were up in 9 of 13 retail categories, the largest decline (in percentage terms) was seen in gas stations while the fastest gain was reported in food services.
