LABOUR FORCE SURVEY, APRIL 2023

                                                                             

MONTH OVER MONTH (April 2023 vs March 2023, seasonally adjusted)

In Nova Scotia,

  • Labour force increased 5,000 (+1.0%) to 530,800
  • Employment increased 1,300 (+0.3%) to 497,300
  • Unemployment increased 3,700 (+12.4%) to 33,500
  • Unemployment Rate increased 0.6 percentage points to 6.3%

In Canada, 

  • Labour force increased 46,600 (+0.2%) to 21,188,400
  • Employment increased 41,400 (+0.2%) to 20,130,200
  • Unemployment increased 5,200 (+0.5%) to 1,058,200
  • Unemployment Rate was unchanged at 5.0%

In Halifax,  (3-month moving average) 

  • Labour force increased 1,200 (+0.4%) to 276,800
  • Employment increased 600 (+0.2%) to 263,800
  • Unemployment increased 600 (+4.8%) to 13,000
  • Unemployment Rate increased 0.2 percentage points to 4.7%

 

YEAR OVER YEAR (April 2023 vs April 2022)

In Nova Scotia,

  • Labour force increased 11,900 (+2.3%)
  • Employment increased 9,700 (+2.0%)
  • Unemployment increased 2,200 (+7.0%)
  • Unemployment Rate increased 0.3 percentage points

In Canada, 

  • Labour force increased 376,500 (+1.8%)
  • Employment increased 414,000 (+2.1%)
  • Unemployment decreased 37,500 (-3.4%)
  • Unemployment Rate decreased 0.3 percentage points

In Halifax,  (3-month moving average) 

  • Labour force increased 15,000 (+5.7%)
  • Employment increased 14,300 (+5.7%)
  • Unemployment increased 600 (+4.8%)
  • Unemployment Rate was unchanged
