NEW HOUSING PRICE INDEX, JANUARY 2023

Month-over-month (January 2023 vs December 2022)

In Nova Scotia new housing prices declined 0.3% from December 2022. Nationally, prices were down 0.2%. Five provinces reported a decline with the largest decline in Manitoba, while Newfoundland and Labrador reported an increase of 0.6%.                                                       

Year-over-year (January 2023 vs January 2022) 

Nova Scotia’s new housing prices increased 3.2% from January 2022. Nationally, prices were up 2.7%.

All provinces posted gains led by Alberta and Quebec while British Columbia reported the smallest year-over-year gain.

Halifax new home prices increased 3.2% year over year in January 2023. New housing price growth among Census Metropolitan Areas was fastest in Calgary. New housing prices were unchanged in Trois-Rivieres, Oshawa, Hamilton, Guelph, and Greater Sudbury.
