MANUFACTURING SHIPMENTS, DECEMBER 2022 AND ANNUAL

Month over month (seasonally adjusted, December 2022 vs November 2022)

Nova Scotia's manufacturing shipments decreased 1.5% to $876 million. National shipments decreased 1.5% to $71.0 billion.

Manufacturing shipments were down in 8 of 10 provinces led by Alberta. Newfoundland and Labrador reported the largest increase.                                                                                    

 

Year over year (December 2022 vs December 2021)

Nova Scotia's manufacturing shipments increased 3.8%. National shipments increased 9.3%.

Manufacturing shipments were up in all provinces, led by Newfoundland and Labrador. Manitoba reported the smallest increase.

Annual  (2022 vs 2021)

Nova Scotia's manufacturing shipments increased 7.9%. National shipments increased 17.9%.

Manufacturing shipments were up in all provinces except Newfoundland and Labrador.  New Brunswick, Saskatchewan and Alberta reported the fastest growth.

 

Nova Scotia's durable goods shipments increased 3.4%, while non-durable goods shipments increased 10.4%. In Halifax, durable goods shipments increased 1.6%, while non-durables increased 9.5%. Outside Halifax, durable goods shipments increased 5.4%, while non-durables increased 10.6%.

Trends 

After reporting a large increased in May of 2022, Nova Scotia's seasonally adjusted manufacturing shipments have fallen back towards previous trends.  Periodic spikes in Nova Scotia's shipments values are not uncommon.  Throughout most of 2022, Nova Scotia's manufacturing shipments growth has lagged the national pace. Nova Scotia manufacturing shipments totalled $10.8 billion in 2022.
