January 18, 2023UK CONSUMER PRICE INDEX, DECEMBER AND ANNUAL 2022 
UK Consumer Price Index including owner-occupiers' housing costs (CPIH) rose by 9.2% in December 2022, compared with December 2021. The largest contributions to rising UK inflation came from housing and household services (principally from electricity, gas and other fuels), food and non-alcoholic beverages. The largest downward contributions to CPI and CPIH came from transport (motor fuels), clothing and footwear, and recreation and culture.
Year-over-year growth in the UK Consumer Price Index (CPI) was 10.5% in December 2022, down from the record high rate of 11.1% recorded in October 2022.
ANNUAL
In 2022, average annual UK inflation including owner-occupied housing (UK-CPIH) was 9.1% while inflation excluding owner-occupied housing costs (UK-CPI) averaged 7.9%. This is the largest annual average UK-CPI since 1990 (+8.0%).
