US HOUSING STARTS AND BUILDING PERMITS, NOVEMBER 2022

                                                                                                                                                     

Month over month (Nov 22 vs Oct 22, seasonally adjusted annualized rates)                                                     

US residential building permits decreased 11.2% over the previous month to 1,342,000. Single unit structures were down 7.1%. Structures with 2 to 4 units were up 2.0%. Structures with 5 units or more were down 17.9%.                                                         

US housing starts decreased 0.5% over the previous month to 1,427,000.                                                                      

               

Year over year (Nov 22 vs Nov 21, seasonally adjusted annualized rates)                                                             

US residential building permits declined 22.4% over the same month last year. Permits for single unit structures decreased 29.7%. Permits for structures with 2 to 4 units increased 8.3%. Permits for structures with 5 units or more decreased -10.7%.

US housing starts decreased 16.4% over the same month last year. Starts for single unit structures decreased 32.1%. Starts for structures with 5 or more units increased 24.5%                                                                    

                                                               

Year to date (Jan-Nov-2022 vs Jan-Nov-2021, seasonally adjusted annualized rates)                                       

US residential building permits declined 2.7% over the same period last year to 1,342,000. Permits for single unit structures declined 11.1%. Permits for structures with 2 to 4 units increased 1.4%.  Permits for structures with 5 units or more up 14.3%.

Housing starts are down 1.0% over the same period last year to 1,427,000. Starts for single unit structures declined 9.2%. Starts for structures with 5 or more units increased 18.1%.
