NEW HOUSING PRICE INDEX, OCTOBER 2022

Month-over-month (October 2022 vs September 2022)

In Nova Scotia, the price of new housing did not change from September 2022. Nationally, prices were down 0.2% with declines in 3 provinces, and no change in six provinces. The only gain was reported in Quebec.

                                                                                                               

Year-over-year (October 2022 vs October 2021)

Nova Scotia’s new housing prices increased 3.6% from October 2021. Nationally, prices were up 5.1%.

All provinces posted gains led by Manitoba and Alberta while Prince Edward Island reported the smallest year-over-year gain.

Halifax new home prices increased 3.6% year over year in October 2022. New housing price growth among Census Metropolitan Areas was fastest in Calgary and Winnipeg. New housing price had the smallest increase in Guelph and no change in Hamilton.

Year-to-date (January-October 2022 vs January-October 2021): Provinces

Nova Scotia new housing prices increased 4.0% on average through the first ten months of the year. Nationally new housing prices increased 8.5% with gains in all provinces. Manitoba had the largest increase and Newfoundland and Labrador reported the smallest.

Halifax's new housing price index was up 4.0% for January-October 2022 compared to the same period in 2021. All cities had growth with the fastest growth in Winnipeg, Calgary and Kitchener-Cambridge-Waterloo and the slowest growth in Hamilton.
