US RETAIL SALES, OCTOBER 2022

Month over month (October 2022 vs September 2022, seasonally adjusted)

The US Census Bureau announced today that the advance estimates of U.S retail and food service sales have increased to $694.5 billion (1.3%). Excluding food services and drinking places, retail trade sales increased 1.2% (+$7.3 billion) while food service and drinking places rose 1.6% (+$1.5 billion).

Year-over-year (October 2022 vs October 2021, seasonally adjusted)

US retail trade increased 7.5% and food services and drinking places sales increased 14.1%.

Year-to-date (Jan-Oct 2022 vs Jan-Oct 2021, seasonally adjusted)

During the first ten months of 2022, the United States retail trade and food services decreased 1.4%.
Retail trade decreased 2.3% and food services and drinking places sales increased 5.5%.

Sales were down in 11 of 13 retail categories, largest decline (in percentage terms) was seen in electronics (-15.5%) while the the fastest gains being reported in gas stations (+20.7%).
