US CONSUMER PRICE INDEX, SEPTEMBER 2022

The United States Consumer Price Index for All Urban Consumers increased 8.2% year-over-year in September. This was below the 8.3% increase reported in August 2022.

The seasonally adjusted index increased by 0.4% in September after a 0.1% change in August. There were many factors that contributed to the increase, among those were shelter, food and medical care. The energy index decreased by 2.1% with gasoline falling by 4.9%. Index for all items less food and energy rose 0.6% in September.

The 12-month change in the CPI - all items less food and energy were 6.7% in September, an increase from 6.3% in August. Over the past 12 months, the energy index is up 19.9% with gasoline up 18.2%. The food index increased 11.2% and shelter increased 6.6% compared to September 2021.
