NEW HOUSING PRICE INDEX, JULY 2022

Month-over-month (July 2022 vs June 2022)

In Nova Scotia, the price of new housing did not change from June to July. Nationally, prices were up 0.1% with gains in two provinces, and declines in three provinces. One of the other Atlantic provinces reported gains and two reported no change in new housing prices.

 

Year-over-year (July 2022 vs July 2021)

Nova Scotia’s new housing prices increased 3.6% from July 2021. Nationally, prices were up 7.5%.

All provinces posted gains led by Manitoba while Prince Edward Island reported the smallest year-over-year gain.

Halifax new home prices increased 3.6% year over year in July 2022. New housing price growth among Census Metropolitan Areas was fastest in Calgary and Winnipeg. New housing price had the smallest increase in Hamilton.

Year-to-date (January-July 2022 vs January-July 2021): Provinces

Nova Scotia new housing prices increased 4.2% on average through the first seven months of the year. Nationally the increased 9.5% with gains in all provinces. Manitoba had the largest increase and Newfoundland and Labrador reported the smallest.

Halifax's new housing price index was up 4.2% for January-July 2022 compared to the same period in 2021. All cities had growth with the fastest growth in Winnipeg and Kitchener-Cambridge-Waterloo and the slowest in Hamilton.
