US HOUSING STARTS AND BUILDING PERMITS, JULY 2022

Month over month (Jul 22 vs Jun 22, seasonally adjusted annualized rates)                                                        

US residential building permits decreased -1.3% over the previous month to 1,674,000. Single unit structures were down -4.3%. Structures with 2 to 4 units were up 6.0%. Structures with 5 units or more were up 2.5%.                                                   

US housing starts decreased -9.6% over the previous month to 1,446,000.                                                             

               

Year over year (Jul 22 vs Jul 21, seasonally adjusted annualized rates)                                                   

US residential building permits increased 1.1% over the same month last year. Permits for single unit structures decreased 11.7%. Permits for structures with 2 to 4 units decreased -3.6%. Permits for structures with 5 units or more increased 26.2%.

US housing starts decreased -8.1% over the same month last year. Starts for single unit structures decreased 18.5%. Starts for structures with 5 or more units increased 17.4%.                                                           

                                                               

Year to date (Jan-Jul-2022 vs Jan-Jul-2021, seasonally adjusted annualized rates)                                            

US residential building permits increased 2.8% over the same period last year to 1,674,000. Permits for single unit structures declined -6.4%. Permits for structures with 2 to 4 units increased 2.1%. Permits structures with 5 units or more up 21.1%. 

Housing starts are up 4.3% over the same period last year to 1,446,000. Starts for single unit structures declined -1.7%. Starts for structures with 5 or more units increased 18.6%.
