UK GDP Q2 2022 (FIRST ESTIMATE)

The Office for National Statistics (ONS)' first estimate of UK Gross Domestic Product (seasonally adjusted annualized rate) for Q2 2022 reports a decline of 0.3% following a growth of 3.1% in Q1 2022. Compared to pre-pandemic quarter (Q4 2019), the UK economy is 0.6% larger in Q2 2022. For Q2 2022, there were positive contributions from consumer-facing services, such as other service activities, accommodation and food service activities , and arts, entertainment and recreation activities.

Services output declined 0.4% in Q2 2022. Positive contributions from accommodation and food service activities, and other service activities were offset by large declines in human health and social work activities, and wholesale and retail trade. Services output is now 1.1% above pre-pandemic levels.

Production activity rose 0.5% in Q2 2022. Production activity was 1.2% lower than pre-pandemic levels. The quarterly increase was driven by electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning supply (2.7%). 

Construction output increased 2.3% in Q2 2022 reflecting increases in both new work and repair and maintenance.
