LABOUR FORCE SURVEY, JULY 2022

MONTH OVER MONTH (Jul-22 vs Jun-22, seasonally adjusted)

In Nova Scotia,

  • Labour force decreased 4,400 (-0.9%) to 511,100
  • Employment increased 1,600 (0.33%) to 481,100
  • Unemployment decreased 5,900 (-16.4%) to 30,000
  • Unemployment Rate decreased 1.1 percentage points to 5.9%

In Canada, 

  • Labour force decreased 27,000 (-0.1%) to 20,573,600
  • Employment decreased 30,600 (-0.2%) to 19,566,500
  • Unemployment increased 3,600 (0.4%) to 1,007,100
  • Unemployment Rate was unchanged at 4.9%

In Halifax,  (3-month moving average) 

  • Labour force increased 1,200 (0.5%) to 266,200
  • Employment increased 500 (0.2%) to 253,200
  • Unemployment increased 800 (6.5%) to 13,100
  • Unemployment Rate increased 0.3 percentage points to 4.9%

YEAR OVER YEAR (Jul-22 vs Jul-21)

In Nova Scotia,

  • Labour force increased 7,800 (1.5%)
  • Employment increased 19,200 (4.2%)
  • Unemployment decreased 11,400 (-27.5%)
  • Unemployment rate decreased 2.3 percentage points

In Canada,

  • Labour force increased 177,600 (0.9%)
  • Employment increased 687,000 (3.6%)
  • Unemployment decreased 509,400 (-33.6%)
  • Unemployment rate decreased 2.5 percentage points

In Halifax, (3-month moving average)

  • Labour force increased 11,100 (4.4%)
  • Employment increased 19,700 (8.4%)
  • Unemployment decreased 8,500 (-39.4%)
  • Unemployment rate decreased 3.6 percentage points
