WHOLESALE TRADE, APRIL 2022

MONTH-OVER-MONTH (seasonally adjusted, Apr 2022 vs. Mar 2022)

Nova Scotia wholesale trade increased 0.3% to $1,178.1 million. Canada wholesale trade decreased 0.5% to $79.8 billion. Four provinces reported monthly increases in wholesale trade, with New Brunswick reporting the largest gain, and Manitoba reporting the largest decline.

Year-over-year (April 2022 vs April 2021)

Nova Scotia wholesale trade decreased 0.8%, and Canada wholesale trade increased 11.5%. 

YEAR-TO-DATE (seasonally adjusted, Jan-Mar 2022 vs. Jan-Mar 2021)

Nova Scotia wholesale trade increased 6.0% compared with the first three months of 2021. Canada's wholesale trade increased 14.2%. All provinces reported year to date increases in wholesale trade, with Saskatchewan reporting the largest gain and Newfoundland and Labrador reporting the smallest.

NOVA SCOTIA SECTORS (seasonally adjusted, Jan-Apr 2022 vs. Jan-Apr 2021)

Nova Scotia total wholesale trade increased 6.0% ($264 million). The largest contributions to overall gain came from miscellaneous wholesalers and building materials wholesalers.  

 

TRENDS 

Nova Scotia's wholesale trade rebounded sharply from the pandemic decline, rising much more quickly than the national average in early 2021.  Over the past year, Nova Scotia's wholesale trade has returned to the national trend.  

 

 

INVENTORIES (Canada April 2022 vs, March 2022)

National inventories increased 1.7% from March to April 2022.  The national ratio of inventories to sales increased from 1.37 in March to 1.40 in April 2022.
