US CONSTRUCTION SPENDING, APRIL 2022

Month over month (Apr 2022 vs. Mar 2022, seasonally adjusted annual rate)

US construction spending increased 0.2% to $1,745 billion. This follows a revised gain of 0.3% reported in March 2022, when construction spending totaled $1,741 billion. Total Residential construction increased 0.9% to $900 billion. Total Non-residential construction spending decreased 0.4% to $844 billion.

Private sector construction increased 0.5% to $1,395 billion. Private residential construction increased 0.9% to $892 billion, while private non-residential construction spending decreased 0.2% to $503 billion.

Public sector construction decreased 0.7% to $350 billion. Public residential construction decreased 1.2% to $8.9 billion, while public non-residential construction spending decreased 0.7% to $341 billion.

 

Year over year (Apr 2022 vs. Apr 2021)

US Construction spending is spending is up 12.3%.  

Private sector construction spending is up 15.3%. Private residential construction spending is up 18.4%, and private non-residential construction spending is up 0.1%. Public sector construction spending is up 1.8%, Public residential construction spending is up 1.8%, and public non-residential construction spending is up 1.8%.

 

Year-to-date (Jan-Apr 2022 vs. Jan-Apr 2021)

In the first four months of 2022, US construction spending is up 12.2%. Private sector construction is up 15.4%, while public sector construction is up 1.2%. Total Residential construction is up 18.7% and total non-residential construction is up 6.1%.
