NOVA SCOTIA INTERNATIONAL GOODS EXPORTS, FEBRUARY 2022

Nova Scotia international merchandise exports were $437.9 million in February 2022, an increase of 4.2% compared to February 2021. Nova Scotia export shipments were 16.7% above pre-pandemic levels February 2020  ($375.3 million). Canada merchandise exports increased 19.1% compared to February 2021 and were 21.8% higher compared to February 2020.                                                                                                                                                  

 

International merchandise exports were higher in nine provinces in February 2022. The largest increases were in Alberta and British Columbia. The year-over-year decline was in Manitoba (-8.6%).

Nova Scotia's exports totalled $939.4 million over the first two months of the year. Year-to-date exports are up 10.7% in Nova Scotia and 18.5% in Canada. Eight provinces have had growth in exports in 2022 with the fastest growth in Alberta and the largest decline in Manitoba.

The largest dollar increase in year-to-date exports has been farm, fishing and intermediate food products (+$61.2 million, +28.7%). Forestry, building and packing material and consumer goods have increased while motor vehicles and parts has been lower.

 

 

Nova Scotia Year-to-Date by Country (January-February  2022 vs January-February 2021, customs-basis, unadjusted)

For January-February 2022 compared to January-February 2021, merchandise exports increased to both United States (+$55.8 million; +10.0%) and China (+$32.9 million; +31.8%).

Exports to the largest Euro Area countries (Germany, Italy, France, Netherlands, Belgium, Spain) and United Kingdom were up compared to last year, while exports to large economies in Asia (Japan, South Korea, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Singapore), Mexico, and other countries were down.
