CANADA TRADE BALANCE, SEPTEMBER 2021

GOODS

In September 2021, Canada’s international trade surplus in goods widened to $1,858.0 million after a surplus of $1,508.7 million in August. Canada's international exports of goods fell by 2.3% to $52,999.8 million and imports of goods declined 3.0% to $51,141.8 million. Disruptions in auto production and auto parts trade accounted for the decline in both imports and exports.

                                                                                                                                   

Canada’s goods trade surplus with the United States was $8,422.7 million in September, up from a $8,139.9 million surplus in the previous month.  Canada exported $39,542.1 million in goods to the US and imported $31,119.4 million in goods from the US.  Compared to August 2021, Canada's exports to the US were down 2.2% while imports from the US declined by 3.7%.  

Canada's deficit in goods trade with the EU widened to $2,193.6 million in September 2021.  Compared to August 2021, Canada's exports to the EU fell 2.6% to $2,711.3 million while imports from the EU were down 0.5% to $4,904.9 million.

Canada reported a deficit of $2,129.8 million in goods trade with China for September 2021.  Canada's exports of goods to China rose to $2,572.8 million (+8.7%) in September.  Canada's goods imports from China were up 0.6% to $4,702.6 million.

SERVICES

Canada’s services trade recorded a deficit of $624.0 million in September 2021, following a deficit of $285.0 million in August. Services imports were up 5.6 % from August to September, rising to $11,794.0 million.  Canada's services exports were up 2.7% to $11,170.0 million in September.

GOODS AND SERVICES

Canada's overall trade surplus in goods and services widened from $1,223.7 million in August to $1,234.0 million in September.  Exports of goods and services decreased by 1.5% to $64,169.8 million while imports of goods and services were down 1.5% to $62,935.8 million.
