US TRADE BALANCE, SEPTEMBER 2021

Month over month (Sep-21 vs Aug-21)

The U.S. Census Bureau and the U.S. Bureau of Economic Analysis announced today that the month-over-month net trade deficit widened by $8.1 billion to $80.9 billion. The goods trade deficit widened by $8.9 billion to $98.2 billion, and the services trade surplus widened by $0.8 billion to $17.2 billion.

                                                                                   

Total exports decreased 3.0% (-$6.4 billion) to $207.6 billion. Exports of goods decreased 4.7% (-$7.1 billion) to $142.7 billion, and exports of services increased 0.9% ($0.6 billion) to $64.9 billion.

Total imports increased 0.6% ($1.7 billion) to $288.5 billion. Imports of goods increased 0.8% ($1.9 billion) to $240.9 billion, and imports of services decreased 0.4% (-$0.2 billion) to $47.6 billion.

 

Year over year (Sep 2021 vs Sep 2020)

In the United States, the net trade deficit widened by $18.3 billion. The net trade goods deficit widened by $16.5 billion, and the net trade services surplus narrowed by $1.8 billion.

Total exports increased 16.6% ($29.5 billion). Exports of goods increased 17.0% ($20.7 billion), and exports of services increased 15.6% ($8.8 billion).

Total imports increased 19.9% ($47.8 billion). Imports of goods increased 18.3% ($37.3 billion), and imports of services increased 28.3% ($10.5 billion).
