Month-over-month (Aug 2021 vs Jul 2021,seasonally adjusted turnover value)
In the European Union, retail sales were up 0.4%. In the Euro Area, retail sales were up 0.3%.
Year-to-date (Jan-Aug 2021 vs Jan-Aug 2020,seasonally adjusted turnover value)
In the European Union, retail sales were up 7.3%. In the Euro Area, retail sales were up 6.9%.
Where data is available, the strongest growth in year-to-date retail sales occurred in Romania and Lithuania. The weakest growth was reported in Slovakia and Germany.
Retail sales were up for most categories across Europe. Food, beverage and tobacco sales reported slower growth. Mail and internet sales were up 22.4% in the Euro Area, and up 22.3% in the European Union.
