LABOUR FORCE SURVEY - AUGUST 2021

MONTH OVER MONTH (Aug 2021 vs Jul 2021 seasonally adjusted)

In Nova Scotia,

• Labour force increased 0.3% (1,300) to 504,600
• Employment increased 0.8% (3,900) to 465,100
• Unemployment decreased 6.2% (2,600) to 39,500
• Unemployment Rate decreased 0.6 percentage points to 7.8%.

In Canada, 

• Labour force remains virtually unchanged (8,800) at 20,414,100
• Employment increased 0.5% (90,200) to 18,974,100
• Unemployment decreased 5.4% (81,400) to 1,440,000
• Unemployment Rate decreased 0.4 percentage points to 7.1%.

In Halifax,  (3-month moving average) 

• Labour force increased 0.6% (1,500) to 255,300
• Employment increased 1.9% (4,400) to 236,100
• Unemployment decreased 13.1% (2,900) to 19,200
• Unemployment Rate decreased 1.2 percentage points to 7.5%

 

YEAR OVER YEAR (Aug 2021 vs Aug 2020, seasonally adjusted)

In Nova Scotia,

• Labour force increased 3.4%  (16,700)
• Employment increased 6.3% (27,500)
• Unemployment decreased 21.5% (10,800)
• Unemployment Rate decreased 2.5 percentage points

In Canada,

• Labour force increased 1.7% (343,000)
• Employment increased 5.3% (957,800)
• Unemployment decreased 29.9% (614,800)
• Unemployment Rate decreased 3.1 percentage points

In Halifax, (3-month moving average)

• Labour force increased 1.1% (2,900)
• Employment increased 4.2% (9,600)
• Unemployment decreased 25.6% (6,600)
• Unemployment Rate decreased 2.7 percentage points

 

NOTE:

*3 month moving average data (Halifax). Average months with considerable volatility from imposition of pandemic related restrictions. These data should be interpreted with caution.
