US CONSTRUCTION SPENDING, MARCH 2021

Month over month (Mar 2021 vs Feb 2021, seasonally adjusted annual rate)

US construction spending increased 0.2% month-over-month from the revised February estimate if $1,510 billion to $1,513 billion in March. Total residential construction increased 1.7% to $735 billion while total non-residential construction spending was down 1.1% to $779 billion.

Private sector construction increased 0.7% to $1,169 billion. Public sector construction declined 1.5% to $344 billion.

Year over year (Mar 2021 vs Mar 2020)

US Construction spending was up 5.3%. Total residential construction was up 23.3% while total non-residential construction was down 7.4%. Private sector construction spending was up 8.6%. Public sector construction spending was down 4.6%.

Year-to-date (Jan-Mar 2021 vs Jan-Mar 2020)

In the first three months of 2021, US construction spending was up 5.2% from the same period last year. Total residential construction was up 21.5%. Total non-residential construction was down 6.3%. Private sector construction was up 7.5%. Public sector construction was down 1.6%.
