March 10, 2021US CONSUMER PRICE INDEX, FEBRUARY 2021 The United States Consumer Price Index for All Urban Consumers increased 0.4% in February 2021, following a 0.3% increase in the previous month.
The increase in the all items CPI in February 2021 was mostly due to continued higher gasoline prices which increased 6.4% month-over-month in February. The food index increased 0.2% in February.
The CPI for all items less food and energy edged up 0.1% in February 2021. There were price increases in shelter, recreation, medical care, and motor vehicle insurance. The indexes for airline fares, used cars and trucks, and apparel all declined in February 2021.
Year-over-year (February 2021 vs February 2020) consumer prices increased 1.7% (not seasonally adjusted). The index for all-items less food and energy increased 1.3%. The food index increased 3.6% while the energy index increased 2.4%.
