NEW HOUSING PRICE INDEX, JANUARY 2021

New housing prices in Nova Scotia remained unchanged month-over-month in January 2021.

Nationally, new home prices increased 0.7% from the previous month in January following a 0.3% gain recorded in December 2020.The largest monthly gain was in Prince Edward Island (+3.3%). New home prices increased in seven provinces and were unchanged in three provinces.

New housing prices in Nova Scotia increased 7.0% year-over-year in January, just behind Quebec (+8.3%) and Prince Edward Island (+7.8%).

In Canada, new housing prices were up 5.4% when compared to January 2020. This was the largest annual increase since March 2008.

Census Metropolitan Areas

Year-over-year, new home prices increased in the majority of Census Metropolitan Areas in January except for Regina (-1.0%). The fastest growth was recorded in Ottawa (+15.3%) and Kitchener-Cambridge-Waterloo (+13.0%).

New housing prices in Halifax increased 7.0% year-over-year in January.
