US CONSUMER PRICE INDEX, JANUARY 2020

The US Consumer Price Index for All Urban Consumers rose 0.1 per cent in January (seasonally adjusted monthly growth) after a 0.2 increase the previous month. This month, the indexes for shelter, food and medical services account for most of the increase in the all items index while the gasoline index declined 1.6 per cent

Year over year (January 2020 compared to January 2019) consumer prices were up 2.5 per cent (not seasonally adjusted), the fastest pace since October 2018. For the previous 12 months, the index for all-items less food and energy was up 2.3 per cent, the food index was up 1.8 per cent and the energy index was up 6.2 per cent.
