January 21, 2020MANUFACTURING SHIPMENTS, NOVEMBER 2019 CANADA
In Canada November 2019, seasonally adjusted Manufacturing Shipments decreased 0.6% to $57.0 billion over October 2019 and decreased 0.1% over November 2018.
Compared to October 2019, overall sales decreased in 11 of 21 industries representing 55.0% of all manufacturing sectors. Durable goods increased 0.0% to $30.0 billion over Oct 2019 and increased 0.3% over November 2018. Non-durable goods decreased 1.3% to $27.0 billion over Oct 2019 and decreased 0.6% over November 2018.
Inventory to sales ratio increased to 1.54 in November 2019. Unfilled orders increased 0.1%to $97.8 billion. Unfilled orders were up in 12 of 21 industries with the largest in aerospace product and parts, machinery, and fabricated metal product industries. New orders increased 1.9% to $57.1 billion over October 2019, as a result of higher new orders in and the transportation equipment industry and the fabricated metal product
PROVINCES
On a seasonally adjusted, month-over-month basis, Manufacturing sales increased in 2 provinces in November 2019 over October 2019. Ontario had the largest growth at 1.4%, Prince Edward Island shipment growth decreased 11.1%, Nova Scotia shipments decreased 5.7%. In Canada shipments decreased 0.6%.
On a seasonally adjusted year-over-year basis, Manufacturing sales increased in 4 provinces in November 2019 over November 2018. New Brunswick had the largest growth at 43.6%. Saskatchewan shipment growth decreased 12.6%. Nova Scotia shipments decreased 0.1%. In Canada shipments decreased 0.1%.
On a seasonally adjusted, year-to-date basis, Manufacturing sales increased in 5 provinces in Jan-Nov 2019. Prince Edward Island had the largest growth at 21.4%. Saskatchewan shipment growth decreased 8.1%. Nova Scotia shipments increased 4.5%. In Canada shipments increased 0.6%.

In Nova Scotia November 2019, seasonally adjusted Manufacturing Shipments decreased 5.7% to $751.1 million over October 2019 and decreased 0.1% over November 2018.
Nova Scotia manufacturing shipments have been on an upward trend since the beginning of 2014 with rising durable (i.e. wood products, metal products, machinery, transportation equipment) and rising non-durable (i.e. food, paper/pulp, chemical, plastic and rubber) shipments. Seasonally adjusted non-durable shipments have risen from $405.4 million in January 2014 to $500.2 million in November 2019. Durable shipments have increased from $170.1 million in January 2014 to $250.8 million in November 2019.

In Nova Scotia Jan-Nov 2019, seasonally adjusted Manufacturing Shipments increased 4.5% ($368.8 million) to $8.5 billion. Non-durable goods industries, accounting for 68% of Manufacturing Shipments, increased 2.8% ($157.7 million) to $5.8 billion. Durable goods industries, accounting for 32% of Manufacturing Shipments, increased 8.4% ($211.0 million) to $2.7 billion.

Unadjusted year-to-date (Jan-Nov 2019), Manufacturing Shipments increased 4.2% ($349.5 million) over the same period last year.
- Non-durable goods shipments, accounting for 68% of Manufacturing Shipments, increased 2.4% ($138.3 million),
- Plastics & rubber products with a 24% share increased 6.1% ($116.6 million).
- Other non-durables with a 45% share increased 0.6% ($21.7 million).
- Durable goods industries with a 32% share increased 8.4% ($211.2 million).
- Wood product manufacturing with a 4% share decreased 10.1% ($41.6 million).
- Fabricated metal Prod with a 4% share increased 5.0% ($14.7 million).
- Machinery manufacturing with a 3% share increased 11.1% ($22.2 million).
- Other durables with a 21% share increased 13.4% ($215.9 million).
CENSUS METROPOLITAN AREAS (CMA) SECTORS
HALIFAX CMA
In Halifax CMA, month-to-month/year-over-year, unadjusted manufacturing shipments have declined 3.6% to $232.1 million over October 2019 and Increased 1.7% over November 2018. Non-durable shipments have declined 6.1% to $88.1 million over October 2019 and increased 9.4% over November 2018. Durable shipments have declined 2.0% to $144.0 million over October 2019 and declined 2.6% over November 2018.
In Halifax CMA, year-to-date (Jan-Nov 2019), unadjusted manufacturing shipments have increased 9.6% to $2.4 billion over Jan-Nov 2018. Non-durable manufacturing shipments increased 4.3% to $940.5 million. Durable manufacturing shipments increased 13.4% to $1.4 billion.
THE REST OF NOVA SCOTIA
In the rest of Nova Scotia, month-to-month/year-over-year, unadjusted manufacturing shipments have declined 14.2% to $518.6 million over October 2019 and declined 3.2% over November 2018. Non-durable shipments have declined 13.2% to $408.5 million over October 2019 and declined 5.6% over November 2018. Durable shipments have declined 17.7% to $110.1million over October 2019 and increased 6.8% over November 2018.
In the rest of Nova Scotia, year-to-date (Jan-Nov 2019), unadjusted manufacturing shipments have increased 2.4% to $6.2 billion over Jan-Nov 2018. Non-durable manufacturing shipments increased 2.1% to $4.9 billion. Durable manufacturing shipments declined 3.5% to $1.3 billion.
